Comments on Skill, not Tools
Yepp. Mcan't buy everything!
So right.
So many people on the forums will tell you to buy this or that "system." I don't care what brand name is on it. It's a load. I can sharpen on cheap stones, diamond stones, crock sticks, sandpaper, brick, or any machine that spins an abrasive. It's all about grinding and polishing the edge and nothing else. Right on.
yepp… that's it… after several year machineshop experience…. i can tell ya, alll drillsharpening jig, tools is just can't come to close when you can sharp a tool by hand… and some of good honing stone all you need for carving tools… i saw sharpening system for 5-6 hundred or even for thoushands…. but the life is the best teacher… when you have to sharp a tool for your job… you going to learn very fast the right method
)
Yep Its true,
I have always been a strong advocate of doing things the traditional way, having the tools you can find do the job, and avoid relying on technology. but I do get caught in this way of thinking every so often.
It is important to know the basics and to really understand what you are doing not just doing what everybody else tells you. Understanding the blade is key to taking good care of it and making the most of your tool.
it's like buying a grand piano and expecting to play Liszt's 12 Etudes just because you have the instrument.
i agree, i am not materialistic at all, i take what i need and i give what i dont, skills stay with you forever, i rather learn how to make something than to buy it.
I like this guys views on knives and sharpening. His neck knives are really awsome too.

Though maybe some day you'll be able to buy a stereo, letting the advanced machinery do everything for you.
@Armacalypse At the cost of quality of course. But if you're willing to settle for second best go right ahead.
FINALLY, A guy that knows how to sharpen a knife! I've been sharpening and "honing" my techniques for 30 years and this is the only video on Utube worth a crap.
