NICE VID (sorry I accidently rated 4 stars, I meant 5) I would be pretty freaked out to be driving on that ledge in the beggining
I totally agree with Pieishman. Driving on that narrow road next to that ledge…eeek! White knuckles. Nice stones you collected, though.
Fantastic vid Matt! Thanks!
I'd love to see some closeup pics of before and after polishing/cutting of the stones.

Thanks again Matt, John.

i am in central florida. i really want to go and have lapidary experience and really want to find my own rocks and metals oooweeeee
Who do you sell your gem finds to? I know plenty of gold buyers but I have not really found any to sell any of the gem quality stones to. Do you recommend cutting them before sale (which is something I would love to finally learn to do)?
You hit on the key to selling them, become a cutter. Take a course on lapidary (or punch that into the search engine and start learning). If you sell your gemstones as rough, they're really sold for pennies on the dollar, where cutting can turn them into 100-1000/ct and more.
you think i can find gold in india near the river banks?
ha gold cool
where can I obtain cloth sacks like you use? Thanks, Paul

After you cut the stone in to a gem do you set it in jewelery?
After you cut the stone in to a gem do you set it in jewelry?
@PJHunterTJ : yes, we do.
Hi Matt, have you done any gold prospecting in Lincoln County NM near Ancho? If so, how'd you do? I understand the GPAA claim there is pretty rich so I'm heading over there in a week or so.
@TheSneakyboots : no, we haven't. Give a report of how you did (we don't need the specific location, just in general how you did, quality of the gold, etc.) if you would, I'd be interested in NM gold as well!
@flagold LOL…gold is gold! I will certainly let you know how it's looking after I get back; but in PM so I'm not announcing to the world.
what was the time of year you went there? that would be a long trip from louisiana. have to plan a vacation to do it. have you been through deming? how far do you drive off the hwy to the campground? how many stones did you find in your two day adventure?
@rcmoot : we were there in January. Compared to Oregon (valley at Plush) the amount was very small – about a 1/2 coffee can of them. It is about 3-4 miles up a twisting road to the (unimproved) campground. If planning a major vacation for a serious amount of sunstone, go to Plush in the spring is my advice.
