Comments on FINDING GOLD IV
The San Juan River has it — I don't know the concentration. There may be many more areas, I haven't looked into the Reservation lands much.
Good luck!
Where do you sell 6lbs of placer gold that you pulled from the river? How much is that worth?
That is a loaded question: you can sell your gold at a pawn shop (almost any) and get 50-??% of spot price immediately, or you can sell to a refiner and get 70+%, or you can put it in small vials and get 10-20 times the spot price (you'll see this on EBay, or you can incorporate it into jewelry (the smart way) and get many times the spot price. Nuggets are each individual and are sold as jewelry pieces. I suggest joining the Gold Prospectors Association of America for a year just to get info.
MAN!
my dad and i go oncanoeing trips every month and 40% of the time we go to the san juan!what areas most likely have gold?
I couldn't tell you. You'll have to prospect it, looking for all the signs prospectors look for. You might want to watch "Finding Gold V and Finding Gold IV (the one in Montana) for some ideas on what to look for. Diamonds V gives some other shots of working a sluice, etc.
well I'm not a wealthy person but have an interest and am wondering if this is something that can be lucritive as well as fun. With not to much travel or expense or at least expense that I get back at some point.
It can be profitable. At the very least, you can recoup some or all of those travel expenses. If gold stays at $800 and above, it could be very profitable as the equipment at that price, is relatively cheap. If you use the simple sluice (Finding Gold V) or the wheel (FG III) or simply vacuum desert wash cracks with a vacuum cleaner (which you probably already have) then it's practically all profit (except your time). Spend more time in the library researching than in the field to score big.
Thanks Matt, both for your videos and all your responses. Much appreciated. I'm planning trips this summer to Crow creek, tributary to the S. Umpqua.
Crow Creek or Cow Creek? Some very good gold on Cow Creek!
Sorry, you're right, Cow creek near Riddle. Thanks again Matt.
Thanks a lot! I've learned a lot from your videos.
Great Stuff Matt Thankyou…….
I just stumbled on your videos today, after looking at buying a Pro dive Hookar diving system ,might do a bit of treasure hunting myself.Cheers Andrew
No, not all of them have it. You'll need to research England + gold + placer deposit (or simply deposits), etc., and see what comes up. You might be better off with a metal detector where you are looking for old Roman coins, and the like as there has been an extraordinary amount of that kind of thing found in the last 10 years by metal detectorists. England has the right system, where what you find is bought by the state instead of the confiscatory system we have in the United States.
Hi!! Im from Philippines.. I was surprise about the stones you have shown in your videos because most of the stone you have shown are just ordinary stone found in some river in the Philippines in fact you can found it in the gravel that sell to build houses.. I have some sample of it color blue, orange and red I got it in an historical place that early malays who migrate in the philipines.. I will show the pictures when Im going back to Philippines on April..Im here in Thailand now..
Matt Great as always , where do you sell your nuggets and fine gold?
I really don't do anything full time, it's best to have a lot of interests, this being one of them.
Moving from crack to crack has to be good
yes it is i do it all the time ahahhaha
realy very use full
Matt, The wife and I do a little prospecting up in Vermont and have a pile of fun, we do not find all that much! We find little bits of gold flour as its called and have yet to find anything of any size. Both of us really enjoy all the knowledge of that you have share out here on Youtube and really look forward to more! When we dig we find lots of garnet, we do know that there is Alexandrite in the area and really don't know how to identify it from stream run pcs. can you help with this? Paul
Paul: I wish we could. My wife and I have never gone after Alexandrite, but after plugging it into the search engine there seems to be enough info to sort it out. The very best of luck to you in doing so!
Matt ,Thanks for taking the time! Theres much I can learn from you and would like too! You have a very good geological view on things, one to be admired! My interest is to find out more about how gold will travel down stream, and to learn more about locating the source and how glacial & volcanic activity play a role in it. Thanks again. Best, Paul
is there a place in New Jersey known where gold silver or semi precious stones have been found where I can metal detect? thanks for the input.
@deathmarch5 : gold has been found, I don't know if it is in economic quantity for the small scale miner, but you're not far away from Vermont and Maine where there is, or New York where there are Herkimer diamonds (crystals). Plug "placer gold New Jersey" into your search engine and start looking for USGS and the like materials, same for "New Jersey gemstones."
Your videos have very good sound quality. So many time you have to fight to hear what the author is saying so you can not relax and enjoy the show. Great Job!
